Connecticut State Troopers encounter children in need every day. Due to this need, State Troopers across Connecticut are dedicated to the success of the “Stuff a Cruiser” toy drive, a statewide effort between Connecticut State Troopers and the citizens of Connecticut to team up to assist families in need during this holiday season. Mount Vernon Library Seeks Young Comic Book Lovers For Comix Club MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Mount Vernon Library is hosting the Comix Club, a new comic book club for third-, fourth- and fifth-graders, Friday, Dec. 18, from 4-4:45 p.m. in the children's room.  The first selection of Comix Club is “Squish: Super Amoeba” by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm. Squish is a new graphic novel series about a comic-book loving, Twinkie-eating amoeba trying to find his place in the world. The Mount Vernon Library is at 28 S. First Ave.

Boces Environmental Educator Teaches Winter Animal Behavior In Mahopac MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- Students at Fulmar Road Elementary School in Mahopac learned about winter animal behavior with a presentation from Kevin Gross, an assistant naturalist from Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES Center for Environmental Education. “If you come upon a bear in a cave in the winter, don't mistake his sleep for hibernation. Bears actually are dormant in the winter, they don’t hibernate,” said Gross. John Martyn, 91, Poughkeepsie Resident POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – John Martyn, 91, of Jensen Beach, Florida, former resident of Poughkeepsie, died Friday, Dec. 4 at Vassar Brothers Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Swansea, Wales, the only child of Ernest and Mary (John) Martyn. He immigrated to the U.S. with his parents, graduated Tottenville High School in Staten Island and shortly thereafter served his country in the U.S. Army, in Company "A" of the 710th Tank Battalion.
