Fairfax County Detectives Have Solved 'Christmas Tree Lady' Case 25 Years Later For 25 years, Fairfax County police have not given up on solving one of the department's more perplexing cases. Now they have an answer. The Fairfax County Police Department announced on Thursday, July 7, that cold case detectives identified the woman who they have been calling "The Christmas Tree Lady" since they found her body on Dec. 18, 1996. Her name is Joyce Meyer. She was 69 years old when she died. Police found Meyer's body at the Pleasant Valley Memorial Park on Little River Turnpike in Annandale a week before Christmas. Helicopter Lands On I-395 To Assist Officer, Driver Captures It All Everything is a landing site during an emergency. A medivac pilot proved that on Wednesday, July 6, after they landed a helicopter on Interstate 395 to rescue a police officer. Park police requested the helicopter to rescue a motorcycle officer who'd crashed on Maine Avenue, WJLA said. A US Park Police pilot had no choice but to land on I-395 around 6:30 p.m. to whisk the officer away to a nearby hospital for treatment. Firefighters Close I-495 After Tractor-Trailer Catches Fire In Fairfax County Firefighters closed a portion of Interstate 495 just before rush hour on Wednesday, July 6, after a tractor-trailer burst into flames in Fairfax County, authorities said. Fairfax County firefighters responded to the fire in the southbound lane of the interstate just before 5 p.m. near the exit for Arlington Boulevard (Route 50), the Virginia Department of Transportation tweeted. Virginia Rapper Wanted On Weapons Charge: U.S. Marshals U.S. Marshals are asking for the public's help to find a Virginia rapper who is wanted on a federal weapons charge, authorities said. William “Mike” Burgess, a Norfolk rapper who goes by the name POWER$$$ and MIC POWER$$$, is considered to be armed and dangerous, the U.S. Marshal Service said. 'Hero Citizen' Thwarted Mass Shooting At Virginia July 4 Celebration: Report One phone call saved dozens of lives. That's according to the Richmond police chief, who said a "hero citizen" alerted authorities last week after they overheard someone planning a mass shooting, a report said. Woodbridge Teenager Pulled Gun On Friend During Break-In: Police An 18-year-old Prince William County man robbed a friend at gunpoint in her home earlier this week, authorities said. Courtney Lavonte Orange, of Woodbridge, is accused of breaking into a home in the 13600 block of Lynn Street in Woodbridge just after 10:30 p.m. on July 4, Prince William County police said. The woman who lived in that home said she knew Orange. She said he broke into her home through an unlocked door, pulled a handgun out of his waistband, and wouldn't let her leave, an incident report said. MS-13 Members Found Guilty In Brutal Murders Of 2 Teens In Falls Church: DOJ Five members of the violent international gang MS-13 were convicted of kidnapping and murdering two Fairfax County teenagers in 2016, prosecutors said. The boys were found in shallow graves at a Falls Church park seven months after they disappeared. An Alexandria jury last week found the men guilty of killing 17-year-old Edvin Escobar Mendez and 14-year-old Sergio Anthony Arita Triminio, the Department of Justice said. Firefighters Rescue Pooch On The Lam Who Escaped To Tiny Prince William Island Prince William County firefighters had to rescue a dog after it escaped from animal control earlier this week. The fire department shared photos of a daring water rescue of a chihuahua who got loose from Animal Control and jumped into a pond to escape on Tuesday, July 5. Firefighters jumped into a boat along with animal control workers and captured the pirate pooch after it doggy paddled to a small island a few hundred feet away from the shore. They returned the wet dog to shore without injury.

Garbage Truck Overturns In Stafford, Spills Trash On Road: Police A waste trailer rolled over on Wednesday morning, July 6, in Stafford County and caused delays, authorities said. The truck overturned around 6:30 a.m. on Chatham Heights Road near Kings Highway, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said. No one was injured, but the wreck caused garbage to spill onto the road. Deputies closed a portion of Chatham Heights Road as they worked to clean up the mess. That caused delays for commuters trying to maneuver through that area on Wednesday morning. Stafford County deputies reopened the road just before 11 a.m.

Woman Seriously Hurt When Truck Tire Crashes Into Car In Fairfax Couny: Police A woman was seriously injured after a truck tire came off of an 18-wheeler and crashed into her car last week in Fairfax County, authorities said. Police are still searching for the truck driver. The woman was driving on Interstate 66 near Stringfellow Road on Friday, July 1, when the tire detached from the tractor-trailer and slammed into the side of her car just after 1:30 p.m., Virginia State Police said.
