According to unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections, Katz defeated Falk, 13,892 votes to 11,543 votes, 54.6 percent to 45.4 percent. On Thursday,Oct. 30, the town held a ceremony at Town Hall where it unveiled a Military Order of the Purple Heart memorial. Cortlandt is the first Purple Heart community in Westchester and is the first place in the region to have a memorial honoring the Purple Heart. Purple Hearts are given to servicemen who have been wounded or killed in action. Almost two million purple hearts have been awarded since the program began in 1932. Buchanan House Fire Is Contained BUCHANAN, N.Y. -- An early morning house fire in Buchanan has been contained on Friday. The fire occurred at an abandoned house at 199 Catherine St. at 4 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported, according to News 12 Westchester. Multiple departments assisted the Buchanan Fire Department in fighting the fire.
