Lodi Details Park Environmental Upgrades LODI, N.J. -- Officials plan to continue soil cleanup efforts at Redstone Park in Lodi.The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) plans to excavate and remove the contaminated soil around the tree roots and under a drainage pipe. The removal will eliminate potential exposure risks to workers who may have to dig around the trees or repair the pipe in the future. The soil will be transported to a licensed and permitted offsite disposal facility.  Officials say Redstone park remains safe for residents. The contaminated soil that exists is located where park users do not come in contact with it.

Ringwood Scrapbook Fundraiser Rescheduled RINGWOOD, N.J. -- The Ringwood Ambulance Auxiliary rescheduled its annual scrapbook fundraiser to May 14. The annual event runs for 12 hours and combines support for the Ringwood Ambulance Corps with preserving precious memories. "It's easy to go online and do the tech stuff," Melissa Kearney told Daily Voice, "but I think having that 12 hours dedicated to doing something on our own helps. Wilton Fire Damages Home, Causes Road Closures WILTON, Conn. -- A fire in Wilton caused damage to a house and forced a portion of Belden Hill Road to be shut down Monday morning, according to the Wilton Bulletin. The fire was reported at 8:30 a.m., with responders from Westport, New Canaan and Weston on the scene and Ridgefield covering the fire headquarters, the Wilton Bulletin reported.  Crews extinguished the blaze within 15 minutes and saved the homeowner's pet cat, the Bulletin said   The cause was still under investigation, the Wilton Bulletin said.  Click here to read the Wilton Bulletin article.

Shelton Man Critically Injured By Flying Tire On Route 8 SHELTON, Conn. -- A Shelton man was critically injured after an errant tire from a camper trailer smashed through his windshield on Route 8 in Seymour on Sunday, according to CT Post.   Mark J. Smolen, 44, was traveling northbound on Route 8 when the camper trailer lost the tire which crossed the median and hit Smolen's Ford Mustang. Dover Man Charged With Burglary DOVER, N.Y. -- A Dover man was charged with burglary on Sunday after stealing air conditioning units from a Holsapple Road shed in February, according to New York State Police.  Thomas C Brown Jr., 31, was arraigned in the Town of Amenia Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash or $25,000 bond police said.  Brown will appear again in court on a later date, police said.

Milford Teen Pleads No Contest To Stabbing, Killing High School Girl MILFORD, Conn. -- A Milford teen pleaded no contest on Monday to murdering a Jonathan Law High School girl hours before the junior prom in 2014, according to CT Post.  Authorities accused Christopher Plaskon, 18, of stabbing and killing Maren Sanchez, who was going to attend the prom with another boy, CT Post reported.  State prosecutors recommended a 25-year sentence, but since Plaskon was only 16 at the time of the crime, he will be eligible for parole after serving 60 percent of the sentence, or 15 years.
