Circus Draws Crowd Of Protesters In Verplanck Circus Draws Crowd Of Protesters In Verplanck
Circus Draws Crowd Of Protesters In Verplanck VERPLANCK, N.Y. -- Two circus performances meant to benefit the Cortlandt Manor Rotary Club have drawn the ire of protesters, citing cruelty to animals.  The Kelly Miller Circus performed Tuesday and Wednesday at the Mount Carmel Grounds. Both performances featured more than 25 protesters outside the venue. "We do not feel wild and exotic animals should be used for entertainment purposes," Hillary Millman, a Putnam Valley resident, said. "You don't get animals that weigh 1,000 lbs. to do what you want by giving them dog treats. These acts are scary and unnatural, they are physically pai…

Letter: Stop The Kelly Miller Circus From Running In Verplanck VERPLANCK, N.Y. -- The Cortlandt Daily Voice accepts signed letters to the editor. Send letters to cortlandt@dailyvoice.com. To The Editor: It is tremendously disappointing to see that the Rotary Club of Cortlandt Manor is hosting a live-animal circus in Verplanck on June 16th and 17th. For an organization whose mission is rooted in service and ethics, it seems to be exceptionally contradictory that they would participate in a practice that is so widely considered to be barbaric and outdated. In the US, there are bans on circus animals in towns/cities across 22 states, including several…
