Mentrasti served as a firefighter for 32 years and was a first responder at Ground Zero following the terror attacks of September 11.  Mentrasti was born July 28, 1962 in Mount Vernon to the late Louis P. Mentrasti and Josephine A. Mentrasti. Family Ties of Westchester has launched a crowdsourcing campaign to help 50 moms of special needs children enjoy a weekend retreat at Clearpool Educational Center in Carmel in June. The campaign has raised $2,000 and the goal is to raise $6,000. Bear Mountain Parkway Ramp Will Be Closed Motorists are advised  the eastbound ramps to and from the Bear Mountain Parkway at Division Street are expected to be closed on Wednesday, April 19, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., while crews perform utility work, according to the State Department of Transportation Motorists should follow the signed detour and anticipate delays, the DOT said. Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay particular attention to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers, the DOT said.

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. --  A 2-year-old boy died after being pulled from a pond about a half hour after being reported missing early Sunday evening in Chappaqua. New Castle Police were called to a property on Whippoorwill Road at about 5:40 p.m. after receiving a report that the child was missing, police said.
