Teen Arrested As Police Break Up Underage Drinking Party In Yorktown YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- An underage drinking party in Yorktown resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old Saturday night, Yorktown Police said. Police responded to a noise complaint at 10:10 p.m. at Ridgeview Lane and discovered the party. The 17-year-old allegedly provided alcohol to several youths under the age of 21 at the residence.  He was arrested and transported back to police headquarters for processing. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on July 6.

Legislator Ellen Nesbitt Announces Resignation POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Ellen Nesbitt is out.Nesbitt, a Dutchess County legislator who represents the Town of Poughkeepsie, announced her resignation Friday. Nesbitt, a Republican, is in her second term representing District 1. The town board will pick Nesbitt's replacement and are accepting applications until Friday at 4 p.m. Nesbitt, who took office when she was 19, told the Poughkeepsie Journal, she could no longer give 110 percent to the job.

Civil War Regiment Remembered At African American Cemetery In Rye RYE, N.Y. -- Twenty people gathered at the African American Cemetery in Rye to honor a Connecticut regiment that fought in the Civil War.The 29th Connecticut Volunteer Regiment, an all-black troop, has six people buried at the cemetery, located within in the Greenwood Union Cemetery.  The regiment participated in several key battles during the Civil War in Virginia and then returned home after the war.  Most of the volunteers were freed or escaped slaves. Black soldiers were paid less than white soldiers so the regiment declined to be paid rather than receive less.

Yorktown Man Attempts Assault, Endangers Child, Police Say A 41-year-old Yorktown resident was charged with attempted assault and endangering the welfare of a child Friday. Italo Martin was charged after Mildred Strang Middle School School Resource Officer Brian Mundy investigated an incident that occurred at Longvue Street on Thursday. Martin was arrested at his home. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on June 6. A Temporary Order of Protection was issued on behalf of the victim, police said.

Peggy Ann Richards, 81, Mamaroneck Teacher Peggy Ann Richards, a longtime teacher in Westchester, died on May 11 in Southbury, Mass., survived by her wife, Judith, who she shared 50 years with. Richards was born May 29, 1935, in Easton, Penn., the daughter of Kathleen and Charles Richards. She attended Hood College and graduated from East Stroudsburg State College. Richards taught in New Rochelle, Croton-Harmon, and Mamaroneck where she was hailed as a gifted and caring teacher who mentored both students and adults. Carmel High School Filmmaker Honored As Student of Distinction CARMEL, N.Y. -- Christian DiBenedetto, a senior at Carmel High School, is a filmmaker on the rise.
