Yorktown Man Issues Bad Check When Buying Prescription Meds, Police Say YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A 26-year-old Yorktown resident was arrested and charged after he tried to pay for prescription drugs with a check he knew was bad, Yorktown Police said. Michael Goldberg was arrested and charged with Issuing a Bad Check, a Class B misdemeanor. Police received a call from Taconic Pharmacy after they received a check for $74 from a closed account at Putnam County Savings Bank. Police said Goldberg knew the account was closed and did not contain sufficient funds. He turned himself into police on July 14. City Says Peekskill Water Safe To Drink PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- An algae bloom was the cause for a change in odor and taste to Peekskill's drinking water, according to Water Superintendent David Rambo. Despite the odor and taste, Rambo said the water is completely safe to consume while it is being treated for algae. The algae bloom was caused by recent heavy rain, Rambo said.

Westchester Sees Rise In Co-Op, Multi-Family Home Sales Co-ops and multi-family home sales are on the rise, while single-family home sales are on the decline in Westchester over the past year, according to a second-quarter report from Westchester Real Estate Inc. Overall sales increased 1.26 percent from the second quarter last year. The increase in co-ops and muti-family home sales helped offset a 10.9 percent decrease in single-family homes and 5.6 percent decrease in condo sales.  The price of a median single-family home increased three percent from last year, while inventory decreased 15 percent.
