Murder: Arrest Made In Death Of Norelis Mendoza An arrest has been made in the death of 32-year-old New Jersey mom Norelis Mendoza, authorities said. Gregory Mallard, 35, of Jersey City, was arrested on Friday, May 19, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, who disclosed few other details other than his charges. She did note, though, that the killing was an act of domestic violence. Mallard was slapped with charges of first degree murder and multiple charges of improperly disposing of human remains, among other charges, Suarez said. Itzep, who lives in Englewood Cliffs, recently opened Taco Time, a fast casual Mexican restaurant in Norwood. Car Crashes Into Bank In Nutley A person crashed into the front entrance of the Valley Bank on River Road in Nutley on Friday, May 19, police said. The driver believed their vehicle was in park, police said. No one was injured and the Nutley Fire Department and Code Enforcement inspected the building for safety, police said. The vehicle was removed from the bank, which was secured by private contractors, police said.

NJ Reps Aim To Keep AM Radio In Vehicles Many automakers are removing AM radios from their new electrical vehicles. Some New Jersey congressmen want to change that. Rep. Josh Gottenheimer (D-NJ), who represents most of Bergen County and parts of Passaic and Suffex County is the lead sponsor on a bill in the House of Represenatives that would require automakers to maintain AM radios in their new vehicles at no extra charge to the consumer. North Jersey Pols Demand Apology From White House After NJ Mayor Turned Away During Ramadan A consortium of mayors throughout North Jersey are demanding an apology from the White House to Prospect Park Mayor Mohamed Khairullah after he was denied entry for a celebration marking the end of Ramadan. Khairullah, who was recently sworn in for his fifth term as mayor, was told by Secret Service Monday, May 1 that he had not been cleared for entry. 9-Year-Old Elizabeth Resident Dies Dave Alex Grande passed away on Monday, April 24 at the age of 9, according to his obituary. Grande was an Elizabeth resident and attended Joseph Battin School No. 4. The Elizabeth Board of Education held a moment of silence for him at its meeting on Thursday, May 11. "Alex was a kind kid and funny, and he love giving warm hugs to me. Now he is in a happy place to be," wrote someone on his tribute wall. Elizabeth Man Convicted Of Murder For 2021 Shooting: Prosecutors A 25-year-old Elizabeth man could spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of murder in a 2021 shooting, authorities said. A jury found Michael Rogers guilty of first degree murder and other charges on Thursday, May 18, for his involvement in the shooting death of Antwoine Thompson, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel said. In April 2021, police responded to Second and Bond Streets where they found Thompson suffering from six gunshot wounds, Daniel said. Man's Torso Found In Elizabeth River, Homicide Investigation Launched A torso was recovered in waters of the Elizabeth River on Tuesday, May 16, authorities said. A homicide investigation has been launched following the discovery made where the river meets the Arthur Kill, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel, Elizabeth Police Director Earl Graves and Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca said on Thursday, May 18. The 25-year-old West Chester, PA resident — who was raised in Summit and New Providence, NJ — died on May 10. He was 25 years old.
