Plainfield Man Convicted Of Strangling Girlfriend Bryan Gonzalez Martines, a 23-year-old Plainfield man was convicted of first degree murder on Tuesday, July 11 for  strangling his 19-year-old girlfriend in 2020, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel said. On July 6, 2020, Plainfield police conducted a welfare check on the 700 block of Kensington Avenue and found the body of Brenda Montoya-Cruz, Daniel said. Martines was convicted after a month-long trial, Daniel said.  Martines faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced in September.
