Paramus World World II Vet Awarded Congressional Gold Medal PARAMUS, N.J. — World War II Veteran Milton Schuchard of Paramus was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal Tuesday during a ceremony at the Cupola Assisted Living Facility in Paramus. The Paterson native, 93, was recognized for his service in the Civil Air Patrol, a civilian auxiliary division of the Air Force that used its own aircraft to patrol the U.S. coastline during World War II. The event is being organized by Murphy's son, New Milford resident Brett Murphy.  Murphy has made it his life's work to help people living with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, after it took his father's life in 2004 at the age of 56.
