Jon graduated from Cornell University and received his master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University. Across a 35-year career, he's worked as a reporter for daily newspapers in Chicago, New York, Ohio & Washington, D.C and as managing editor for weekly newspapers in Rye, White Plains and Harrison.

$25.5M Carmel School Bond Proposal Voted Down For the second time in less than a year, Carmel taxpayers defeated a school renovation bond plan, this time worth $25.5 million.Tuesday night's unofficial results were 1,334 votes against the bond issue and 1,192 Carmel residents for it. Carmel School Superintendent Andy Irvin has said the roofs at all five schools are more than 30 years old and need to be replaced. He also said there was a flood at the high school this summer. Plastic Bag Ban Approved By Stamford Board Stamford joined Greenwich and Westport in approving a future ban on single-use plastic bags in that city. On Monday, Oct. 1, Stamford's Board of Representatives in voted in favor of the ban, which begins in six months. Stamford's board also approved charging 10 cents to customers who use recyclable paper bags instead of bringing their own reusable bags. The new city ordinance calls for the paper bags be 100 percent recyclable and contain at least 40 percent recycled content.  Greenwich's ban went into effect on Sept. 12, also six months after its passage, as reported here by Daily Voice.

Runaway Car Rams Other Vehicles, Parking Meters On Halstead Avenue In Mamaroneck In you witnessed what looked like a disastrous motor vehicle accident in the Village of Mamaroneck on Friday afternoon, it looked nastier than it turned out, according to police. The accident occurred in front of 141 Halstead Ave.  Eyewitnesses said an elderly woman lost control of her car and rammed into several parked cars and multiple parking meters before coming to a stop. Police did not release the name of the driver. "No injuries were reported and no summonses were issued," said Lt. Sandra DiRuzza, a spokeswoman for the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department.
