An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Peekskill Mourns Loss Of Former Mayor Fred 'Jay' Bianco PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Former Peekskill Mayor Fred "Jay' Bianco is being remembered as the man who helped lead Peekskill's renaissance. Bianco died Saturday at the age of 84. A graduate of Peekskill High School and a former attorney, he served as mayor from 1976 to 1981. While mayor, Bianco purchased the Paramount Theater (now known as Paramount Hudson Valley), saving it from demolition and dedicated Peeskill's Riverfront Green as a public park. Cortlandt Town Center Owner Proposes Another Shopping Center Nearby CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- A new shopping center has been proposed for the Town of Cortlandt. Acadia Realty is proposing a 340,000 square foot retail shopping center across the street from the Cortlandt Town Center on Main Street, which Acadia also owns. Westchester Residents Brave Frigid Weather CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- You could forgive Peekskill resident Barbara Prehal for wanting to move to Florida on a day like Thursday. Threat Forces One-Hour Lockout At Three Ossining Schools OSSINING, N.Y. -- Three schools in the Ossining School District were placed on lockout Thursday afternoon after a threat was made on social media. Claremont School, Anne M. Dorner School and Ossining High School were placed on lockout for approximately one hour from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The district said police were investigating the matter. Putnam Valley Has Been Wrestling With Success This Season PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. -- It's been a banner year for the Putnam Valley High School wrestling team. The squad recently took home a Division II title at the Section 1 duals. It is quite the achievement for a program that only has existed since 2000. Prominent Ossining Artist Is Charged With Sexual Assault In Vermont OSSINING, N.Y. -- Mark Sadan, a 75-year-old Ossining resident was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault on a minor by police in Vermont. Sadan, a prominent artist, filmmaker and photographer in the village was arrested on Dec. 19 in the state of Florida. A warrant had been issued for Sadan's arrest in Vermont on Dec. 8 after being accused by Montpelier Police of sexually assaulting two minors over several years. Yorktown News Photographer Stan Gitner Dies At 85 YORKTOWN, NY. -- Stan Gitner, a news photographer known for being a fixture at accidents and fires, died on Saturday at the age of 85. Gitner died at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt after a recent illness. Before becoming a news photographer, Gitner worked in motion picture film rejuvenation for more than 30 years. Gitner was also a Yorktown Auxiliary Police Officer and in 1982 he was appointed the Deputy Director of the Town of Yorktown Office of Disaster and Emergency Services, a position he held until his death. Byram Hills Hockey Team Will Show Its Pink Spirit ARMONK, N.Y. -- The Brewster Ice Arena will be colored in pink Friday, Jan. 9 when the Byram Hills hockey team plays its annual game to raise money for breast cancer. Cortland Manor Resident Launches Website For New Notebook Project CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- A Cortlandt Manor resident is turning to Kickstarter, a crowdfunding website, for his new notebook project. Tom Leszczynski launched a Kickstarter for tpad, a refillable Titanium-bound notepad. The tpad is a grade five titanium bound notepad with refillable titanium coils.
