An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Horace Greeley Athletes Help Fight Pediatric Cancer CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- This season, Greeley athletes are excelling on and off the field.More than a dozen Horace Greeley athletic teams will be participating in the 4th annual Greeley All-Athlete Walkathon on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 11 a.m to 1 p.m at the Horace Greeley High School Competition Field. The event is in honor of Gardner Marks, a Greeley graduate, who lost his life to cancer. This year's walk is also honoring Casey Taub, a Greeley student who succumbed to brain cancer. Man Strikes Victim With Metal Pipe In Mohegan Lake, Police Say A Dutchess County man was arrested and charged Tuesday after police say he struck a Lexington Avenue resident in the arm with a metal pipe in Mohegan Lake. Muhamet Kabashi, 47, of Poughquag was charged with assault in the third degree, a Class D felony and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a Class D felony. A man called police on Sunday, Oct. 15 saying that on the previous Wednesday, Oct. 11, Kabashi attacked him, causing pain, police said. Following a police investigation, Kabashi turned himself in and was released on $2,500 bail. He is due back in court on Nov. 28.

New Castle Eyes $18.2M For Downtown Projects NEW CASTLE, N.Y. -- The Town of New Castle will be going out to bond to pay for its downtown improvement projects.The town intends to borrow $18.2 million to pay for the downtown Chappaqua project, as well as other projects in town. The 18-month project will replace aging water and sewer mains in the downtown. The bond is expected to be completed by January at the latest. $13.7 million is going toward the streetscape project, while $1 million is going to the refurbishment of Minkel Dam. Employee Stole Thousands From Jefferson Valley Macy's, Police Say A 30-year-old employee was arrested and charged with stealing thousands in cash from Macy's at the Jefferson Valley Mall. Latierre Valentine of Ossining was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a Class E felony. Police allege Valentine stole $2,850 in cash while he was employed at the store from Sept. 19 to Oct. 15 while he was working the register. Valentine was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was released on $200 bail and is due back in court on Nov. 16.

Preliminary Poughkeepsie Budget For 2018 Released POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Mayor Ron Rolison released his 2018 preliminary budget Monday, which stays within in the state-mandated tax cap on the tax levy. The $49.6 million general fund will see a tax levy increase of 1.80 percent and a spending increase of .1 percent. Rolison said the city saved approximately $391,000 by outsourcing its bus service to the county. Hundreds Of Westchester Students Take Part In Anti-Opioid Summit More than 400 Westchester students want to be part of the solution in fighting the opioid epidemic. The county held a summit at the Westchester County Center on Monday, featuring a talk from BMX racer Tony Hoffman, a recovering heroin addict. Students from 37 schools took part in the day-long summit. The opioid epidemic caused a 200 percent increase in fatalities in Westchester from 2010-2015. Yorktown Opening Indoor Farmers Market YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Just because the temperatures are dropping doesn't mean there are no more farmers markets.
