Community Rallies Around Boy Critically Injured While Riding Bike Agel Khalifeh, a 13-year-old Clifton resident and rising 8th grader at Christopher Columbus Middle School, is in a coma after he was hit by a car while riding his bike on Sunday, June 25.  Khalifeh suffered internal bleeding to the brain and stomach and has undergone multiple surgeries since the accident. Kearny Mayor Resigns After 23 Years, Appointed Superior Court Judge It's the end of an era in Kearny. Alberto Santos, who has been mayor since 2000, announced in a letter to the town council and municipal clerk on Monday, June 26, he is resigning after being confirmed as a Superior Court Judge by the state senate. "It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Kearny," Santos wrote. Santos was in his 7th term as mayor. Before becoming mayor, he represented Kearny's second ward for one year.

Man Gets 60 Years For 2011 Plainfield Stabbing: Prosecutors Anthony James, a 62-year-old Plainfield man was sentenced to 60 years in state prison for a 2011 fatal stabbing, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel said. In Sept. 2011, Plainfield police responded to James' home on the 300 block of East 7th St. and found the body of 48-year-old Audrey Tanksley, Daniel said. James had called 911, Daniel said.  James was sentenced after being convicted of first degree murder and two weapons charges, Daniel said.

Beloved Mahwah Music Teacher Fighting Cancer Again Sees Community Support Lynette Parks is once again in the fight of her life and the community is coming to her aid. The beloved music teacher at Young World Day School in Mahwah has been diagnosed with cancer. Parks previously beat cancer in 2019.  Parks, a mother of three, works at Trader Joe's in Wayne when she's not sharing her love of music at preschools in the area.
