Glen Rock Arboretum Could 'Take Next Logical Step' With Education Center
GLEN ROCK, N.J. — Glen Rock Council will vote on an ordinance granting a $238,000 loan for the construction of an environmental education center at the Thielke Arboretum on Jan. 27. Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum Inc., a nonprofit volunteer group, have already raised $400,000 to help build the structure. ORADELL, N.J. — Identical twins Frank and Bob Muggeo, 54, are similar in more ways than one. Aside from both being coaches at Bergen Catholic, they're both doing an exceptional job. Frank, who is four minutes older than Bob, has gotten the Crusader freshman basketball team out to a hot 8-0 start this year after winning the county championship last year. East Rutherford Native, Veteran William Zito Joins Police Department
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — William Zito became the newest member of the East Rutherford Police Department when he was sworn in by Mayor James Cassella during a ceremony at borough hall Tuesday night. Zito, 30, is an East Rutherford native. He served in the United States Navy for five years before joining the department. Carlstadt Teacher Launches School Wide Recycling Project
CARLSTADT, N.J. — A fourth grade teacher at Carlstadt Public School is trying to promote recycling, help save the environment and fundraise for the school — all in one go. Maura Barrett proposed that the school join the TerraCycle trash collection program because she wanted to do something to help the environment. RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — The Ridgewood Unplugged Concert series is returning to the Schoolhouse Museum on East Glen Avenue for its ninth season Friday. Fair Lawn Ends Recycling Division, Awards Contract To Garbage Company
FAIR LAWN, N.J. — Fair Lawn is discontinuing its municipal recycling division in order to save the borough roughly $500,000 annually, Fair Lawn Mayor John Cosgrove said. The contract went to garbage collection service Cali, which is already contracted by Fair Lawn for garbage pickup. Recycling division employees will be transferred to the Department of Public Works to fill holes left by retiring workers, Cosgrove said.
