City Taunts Trump By Renaming Its Own 'Gulf': 'Words Don't Matter' Cleveland has renamed its portion of Lake Erie to mock President Donald Trump's push to rename bodies of water. The city's council approved a resolution to call part of Lake Erie the "Gulf of Cleveland" on Monday, Sept. 14. The measure passed 13-1 and is nonbinding, which means it doesn't legally change the lake's name, WKYC 3News reported. Council member Kris Harsh introduced the resolution, which applies to the area of Lake Erie stretching from the easternmost to westernmost points of Cleveland's shoreline.
