To Voice of reason: Madam...don't get your knickers in a bunch. And stop with the name-calling. It only hurts your argument.
Sharing a very expensive facility makes perfect fiscal sense. Using a prefab facility makes even more sense, as has been done for several surrounding towns and businesses. Prefab lets you minimize construction costs while putting money into interior areas that the DPW employees can actually benefit from.
As you say, "$8M is very expensive". What suggestions do you have to minimize the cost of the Grafton DPW building exterior while maximizing the quality of the interior? View Comment
Hi fans...grommit from Grafton here. I've got your solution: Grafton is also investigating building a new DPW Palace, er, Garage. How about we build the garage on the border between Grafton and Northbridge and SHARE the facility! You could cut your expenses quite a bit...not in half, because you would need some extra space for the Grafton fleet (and our spiffy Police power boat, which gets lots of use in our deep water lakes...ha!). The extra space should not be astronomically expensive. And if you go with a prefab construction, you save tons of money, and they last just as long. Whaddya' think? View Comment
So, someone tell me why we need special "dispensaries" (i.e...head shops) to dispense "medical" marijuana.
1) If it is really medical, why is it not controlled the same way all other medical prescriptions are controlled?
2) Why is it not dispensed through drug stores? They are already set up to take prescriptions or scripts, from legit doctors, carefully measure the amounts, and sell to legitimate customers.
3) Why do we need to set up something special, which will cost more tax money to license and control, be supervised by political hacks, ... oh, wait...I think I see the answer. Nevermind. View Comment
Why? Because when you are stoned, you cannot safely drive a car.
At least, that's what I heard. I have no direct experience...ahem...not me...nope... That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. View Comment
Well, well, well. I applaud Mr. Flynn's persistence and patience. His concern with the town government's apparent willingness to accept things without examining their impact is a real driving force. I wonder if Mr. Flynn can translate his focus on the RR into all the mundane, but tax-gobbling, town activities. I hope so.
We have several BoS members who seem reluctant to question, probe, examine. Many proposals are needed, but they should never be accepted without examining the alternatives. But, with no questions, we end up with rubber stamping whatever is presented by the TA.

Hello Voice...thanks for the response. But, here's the problem: 80+ sites were reviewed: Where is that information? Who did the reviews? Was that reported? Is it documented? I try to pay attention to where my tax dollars are going, but I cannot find any of this information anywhere. I will definitely vote for things that make sense for the town, even if I do not directly benefit (the new high school, the new police station, the new fire station, the new super park...geez...that's a lot!). For many months, the current DPW Building Committee failed to publish meeting minutes. I just happened to chat with Mr. Adams at a public meeting last Summer, and learned about their direction of buying land near the Pike and constructing a new building. Is this true?
I respect the time and effort every committee puts into their charges. But there is a need for just a bit more transparency. Do you agree? View Comment
Ah...Mr. Lamp. Once again, you are right.
I'm sure the TA would love one of those houses along Highfields golf course. Or one of those cool mansions along South Street. If things work out, he could walk to the new Worcester Street Super Park and let his kiddies play on the swings. View Comment
Wow...strange BoS meeting. I'm trying to figure out what was going on.
Yes, there is value in examining committee decisions. But all of this was done months ago, wasn't it? Am I missing something? Why are Mr. Dowling and Mr. Adams just now starting to ask questions? Why did they vote unanimously in favor of the Worcester Street site? Why are they challenging the will of Town Meeting to go ahead with the site plan. Did they think they were voting for something else? Were they not paying attention back then? What changed in the interim? Is it that Mr. Padgett was absent for this discussion?
My gosh...we've all seen those court room TV shows where the Judge says "asked and answered...move along". These questions were asked months ago, and answered in detail by the Super Park committee. Major kudos to Super Park committee reps for not losing their cool.
As for the DPW building...are these BoS members aware of what the DPW building committee is doing? Do they want the DPW to spend money on a new building at a new site? We're putting the old oil tank above ground, with new controls...Is this all in preparation for the big move?. What will they do with the old building on the old site? Are the BoS members examining the DPW meeting minutes (assuming they can find them)? Will the DPW bring forward a "done deal" with only one option (build or else)? View Comment
Mr. Lamp...you are right. The standard BoS plan is to max the tax increase, so we max the tax revenues, so we have the max money to spend in case we need it. This is the money we see in the wonderfully named accounting item "Free Cash". This also positions us for future years, whereby we always max out the tax increase. Of course, this means we will NEVER see a tax decrease. View Comment
Okay fans...lets make sure we vote early and often!
I look forward to the Grafton TV interviews, and to the LWV debate. Lets hope the moderators read ALL the questions, as written, and not modify them. View Comment
Wow! Upton commenters use references to one of the greatest movies of all time.
"The guns... the gun belts, you take off and put here now."
"Only the farmers have won"
Grafton had two movies: "Ah Wilderness" (which left behind that Town Common gazebo) and "Orchard House" (filmed at the cool house on North Street). But, Upton talks about "The Magnificent Seven". Geez...I may have to move to Upton. View Comment
ooh ooh...I've got it! I have the solution! Just use all that expertise from the Boston Big Dig, bring it here, and put the roads underground! What a great idea. I'm so smart. Ouch, I just hurt myself patting myself on the back.
Howdy neighbor...excellent point about transparency. Yes, it would be easy to post an electronic doc on the town web site. Lets hope they do this.
Interesting point: during the last school committee campaign, the lone candidate agreed that posting such information was of value and she agreed to take on that initiative. Hmmm.... View Comment
Is someone preventing the DPW guys from using any of the fire stations? Or the police station? If so, why? The firemen do not own the fire stations, the Town does. The police do not own the police station, the Town does. So, if any town employee needs to use those buildings, they should be allowed to use them when needed. View Comment
