AUBURN, Mass. – The Auburn High School sports teams will return to action this week after a brief break over Columbus Day weekend, as teams look to gain momentum with playoffs approaching.
Here’s a look at the sports calendar for the week ahead:
Boys' Varsity Cross Country – The runners will be heading into their third straight tri-meet Wednesday at Shepherd Hill High School. The starting gun will fire at 3:30 p.m. The other team in the meet is Southbridge High School.
Girls' Varsity Cross Country – The girls will join the boys in the tri-meet Wednesday at Shepherd Hill. Their race also is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
Boys' Varsity Football – The four-time defending Super Bowl champions will have a Saturday afternoon game against Leicester High School. The matinee kicks off at 1 p.m. at Auburn High School. Leicester easily won its first three games this season but fell to Grafton on Sept. 29.
Boys' Varsity Golf – The golf team usually has three matches per week, but the squad only has one this week. The team’s only match is away at Tantasqua on Tuesday. The match tees off at 3 p.m.
Boys' Varsity Soccer – The team will be on the road for two games this week. On Tuesday, the Rockets head to Shepherd Hill for 5:15 p.m. Then on Thursday, the squad plays against Tantasqua High School at 7 p.m.
Girls' Varsity Soccer – The Division 2 state champions will also be playing two away games. The team hits the road on Tuesday at 7 p.m. versus Shepherd Hill. The girls then face Tantasqua on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
Girls' Varsity Field Hockey – The field hockey team will see if it can continue its defensive dominance in two games this week. The team will be away at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Shepherd Hill. Then the field hockey squad will head to Tantasqua on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
The schedule could change because of weather or mosquito concerns.
