AUBURN, Mass. – Pending the potential landfall of the hurricane/tropical storm/nor’easter/perfect storm, the Auburn High School sports teams have some huge games this week.

Here’s a look at the sports calendar for the week ahead:

Boys' Varsity Cross Country: The runners have a tough meet in front of them at Shepherd Hill at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Shepherd Hill cruised to victory in last week’s Southern Worcester County League championship meet at Webster Lake. The Rockets had a strong second-place finish in the championship meet.

Girls' Varsity Cross Country: The girls will join the boys at the meet against Shepherd Hill. Their race also is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The match-up also looks like a tough one for the Rockets; at the league championship meet, Auburn finished in seventh place while Shepherd Hill came in third.

Varsity Football: The four-time defending Super Bowl champions will have a Friday night game against Northbridge. The match-up kicks off at 7 p.m. at Auburn High School. Northbridge has had a strong season, destroying Bartlett, David Prouty, Southbridge and Nipmuc, while squeaking out wins against Tantasqua and Grafton. Northbridge was undefeated until Oct. 19 when the squad lost to Shepherd Hill, another formidable opponent.

Boys' Varsity Golf: The Rockets are flying high after winning the Central Massachusetts Division 2 District Tournament last week. But Auburn, who also went undefeated in league play and won the league championship, will have to wait a week before heading to the state championship on Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. in Lynn. The match was delayed a week due to the storm. Tyler Lamonda, who has led the team all season, also will compete in the individual state tournament.

Girls' Varsity Soccer: The Division 2 state champions are waiting to learn its first playoff opponent.

Girls' Varsity Field Hockey: The dominant field hockey squad is also waiting for the playoff schedule to be released.

The Daily Voice will have updates on the playoff schedules and if any games are canceled due to the storm.
