Auburn Sports Teams Debut This Week

AUBURN, Mass. – The Auburn High School sports teams have been working hard all summer and preseason for this first week of September, when teams will finally be tested in that much-anticipated first game.

Here’s a look at the sports calendar for the week ahead:

Boys Varsity Cross Country – The runners head to Quaboag Regional High School for their first meet. The starting gun will fire at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Girls Varsity Cross Country – The girls will join the boys on the trip to Quaboag for the first meet on Wednesday. Their race is also scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Boys Varsity Football – The four-time defending Super Bowl champions will start their title defense against Shrewsbury High School on Friday. The home game kicks off at 7 p.m.

Boys Varsity Golf – The golf squad has its first match Tuesday against Northbridge High School. The home match tees off at 3 p.m.

The team also plays Wednesday at Leicester, Thursday at home against Quaboag and Friday at home versus Southbridge. All matches begin at 3 p.m.

Boys Varsity Soccer – The soccer team is looking to get off on the right foot Thursday against Leicester High School. The home game is at 7 p.m. New head coach Christopher Bailey makes his debut.

Girls Varsity Soccer – The girls’ squad begins its Division 2 State Championship title defense Thursday. The team is at Leicester, with action starting at 3:30 p.m.  

Girls Varsity Field Hockey – The field hockey team will also be facing Leicester in its first game. The game is at home at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Then the team hits the road Friday, heading to Cape Cod to meet Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School at 4 p.m.

Athletic Director William Garneau said the teams are ready to go.

“It should be another exciting fall,” Garneau said. “We have a very strong senior class. The coaches are excited and the kids have been working hard all summer.”
