Auburn Sports Have Big Day

AUBURN, Mass. – The Auburn High School sports teams are on a roll, recording four wins in five sports on Monday, Oct. 15.

Field Hockey Stays Undefeated

The Rockets are now 12-0-2 after yet another shutout victory, this time against David Prouty in Spencer.

The field hockey squad won 3-0 behind goals from Shannon Hynes, Jordan Lavallee and a stroke by Erin Collins. Goalkeeper Sarah Palace recorded her 11th shutout of the season.

Girls Soccer Rout David Prouty

The girls improved to 9-0-4 on the season in an offensive showcase at home, beating David Prouty, 5-0.

Auburn’s Jenna Matthews set the tone one minute into the game with a goal off a rebound. Erin Scanlon tallied two goals for the Rockets, and Alison Nikula and Lizzy Carlson scored one goal each as Auburn remained undefeated.  

Boys Cross Country Cruises on Road

The runners had the first 10 finishers against Hudson, sweeping the meet, 15-50, and improving to 8-1 on the season.

Matt Lavallee led the way for the Rockets with a time of 19:46. The other runners to place were Matt Healey (19:49), Tom Gannon (20:00), Kevin Foley-Foster (20:12) and Kyle Quitadamo (20:31).  

Girls Cross Country Squeaks by Hudson

The girls pulled out a tight victory at Hudson as the Rockets had five out of the first eight finishers. The runners are now 6-3 on the season after the 26-31 win.

Riley Simmons was Auburn’s top finisher. She came in second overall with a time of 25:02. The Auburn runners to follow her were Jess Powers (25:29), Michelle Dufault (25:44), Sarah Wilcox (25:59) and Amber Abderrazzaq (26:09).

Boys Soccer Fall In Rain-Shortened Game

The Rockets dropped to 4-6-3 after losing to David Prouty, 3-0, in Spencer, as the game was called at the beginning of the second half due to rain.

David Prouty’s Matt Marderosian scored two goals, and Nick Chatpotolous scored the other goal.

The Rockets are in the midst of the toughest stretch of its season, facing top-quality opponents, according to head coach Christopher Bailey. The loss on Monday is the team’s third straight defeat after falling to Shepherd Hill and Tantasqua last week.
