AUBURN, Mass. – The Auburn High School boys cross country squad finished in seventh place at the MIAA Central Massachusetts District Championship Meet on Saturday as senior Matt Lavallee qualified for states.
Lavallee ran the Gardner Municipal Golf Course's 2.9 miles in 15:59, which qualified him for all-districts and the Division 2 state meet at Northfield Mountain next week.
Lavallee, who finished first on the team in every meet this season, finished 11th overall in the district race. The individual winner was Bromfield's Price Day with a time of 15:11. Hopedale won its third straight team title, followed by Whitinsville Christian in second place and Bromfield in third.
Lavallee was followed by Auburn sophomore Thomas Gannon in 16:54 (43rd place), sophomore Matt Healey in 17:01 (48th place), junior John Bylund in 17:32 (66th place), junior Kyle Quitadamo in 17:40 (74th place), junior Aidan Foley-Foster in 17:40 (76th place) and junior Kevin Foley-Foster in 18:22 (113th place).
On the girls’ side, freshman Riley Simmons finished her season with a top finish for the Rockets, coming in 105th place with a time of 22:15 on the 2.9-mile course. The girls' team came in 21st place.
Simmons was followed by Auburn junior Jessica Powers in 23:08 (128th place), junior Michelle Dufault in 23:22 (131st place), junior Amber Abderrazzaq in 23:32 (133rd place), junior Katherine Grogan in 23:38 (134th place), junior Kathryn Coughlin in 23:39 (136th place) and junior Sarah Wilcox in 23:39 (137th place).
Tyngsboro won the Division 2 girls’ team title, and Tyngsboro’s Kerri Keohane was the individual winner.
In the regular season, the boys' team had a record of 11-2, and the girls' squad finished the season 8-5.
