AUBURN, Mass. — The Auburn High School girls varsity basketball team claimed back-to-back victories with little rest in between after following up Wednesday night's 64-22 defeat of Oxford High School with a 42-31 win against Shepherd Hill High School in Thursday's rescheduled game.
In January, the Rams beat the Rockets 64-49 in Dudley, and it appears the Auburn girls weren't going to let this happen again.
The game was tied 7-7 at the end of the first quarter with both teams being very aggressive defensively.
The Rams scored first in the second, but senior Erin Scanlon shot two to tie it again. Auburn pulled ahead 20-18 at the half but had 8 fouls to the Hill's 4.
The third quarter ended 29-25, and it looked like Shepherd Hill had their wind knocked out. The Rams would only score 6 points in the fourth, and Auburn added 13.
The Rocket's offensive game was second only to their defense. Between steals, turnovers, and solid blocking in the key, Auburn took advantage of nearly every opportunity.
Sophomore Erin Burke led Auburn with 13 points followed by senior Scanlon's 11.
After the game, Coach Ellen Kaschuluk said the game was "a great win for us, and put us in a good place." They are scheduled to play Notre Dame Academy on Monday in Auburn.
