AUBURN, Mass. – The Auburn Senior League All-Stars were eliminated from the World Series on Wednesday. Even though the final game Thursday couldn’t advance them in the tournament, that didn’t stop the players from closing out the season in style.

On Thursday, the 15- and 16-year-olds from Auburn defeated Notre-Dame-de-Grace L.L., from Montreal, representing Canada in the Senior League World Series. Auburn, representing U.S. East, was down 2-0 in the third inning but battled back to win its final game in Bangor, Maine, 3-2.

“We’re the best team ever from Auburn, from Massachusetts and from New England,” Manager Dalton Goodrich said earlier this week. “No team has ever made it to the World Series from New England, so it’s quite the accomplishment to get here.”

In the victory over Canada, Ryan Kozlowski earned the win after coming in relief and pitching five scoreless innings. He allowed two hits and one walk while striking out two batters.

Auburn was behind 2-0 when it came up to bat in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, Joe Fahey hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Tyler Desjardins for Auburn’s first run of the game.

Then Auburn took the lead in the fourth with a two-run rally. Lincoln Bois began the inning with a double and scored when Tyler Lamonda singled. Lamonda advanced to third base later in the inning and was driven home on Joshua Boucher's ground out.

Auburn went ahead 3-2, and Kozlowski protected the lead in the final innings as Auburn held on for the one-run victory.

The win moved Auburn to 2-2 in the World Series tournament, which includes teams from across the United States and foreign countries. Auburn finished with the same record as Michigan, the Central champion, but Auburn didn’t advance to the semifinals because of the tiebreaker rule.

Auburn's 13 team members also play for Auburn High School. They are Ryan Angelico, Lincoln Bois, Joshua Boucher, Tyler Desjardins, Joe Fahey, Drew Goodrich, Matt Kapulka, Ryan Kozlowski, Tyler Lamonda, Ryan Mulcahy, Matthew Nelson, Kyle Quitadamo and DJ Scavone.

The manager is Dalton Goodrich. The two coaches are Rich Kapulka and Dan Scavone.
