AUBURN, Mass. — Shawn Sanders, the office technology instructor at Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School, was selected to receive the 2013 Massachusetts Vocational Association New Teacher of the Year Award in March.

The award is given to teachers with less than five years of experience in either academic or vocational settings who have shown good personal character, leadership and commitment to career, vocational and technical education.

Nominees must also be involved in school activities and other experiences that challenge the teacher.

Before becoming a teacher at Bay Path, Sanders attended the school and studied data processing.

After graduating eighth in his class, he went on to study at Quinsigamond Community College and Nichols College, graduating summa cum laude with majors in accounting and finance management.

After working as a public accountant and later in a computer training position for international law firms in Washington, D.C., Sanders accepted a job as the office technology instructor at Bay Path.

Sanders is also the alumni adviser, yearbook adviser and school photographer and is involved with many clubs and activities at the school.

Sanders will receive the award at the MVA annual convention in Hyannis on March 23.
