AUBURN, Mass. - The Town of Auburn closed the emergency shelter at the Auburn High School at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. According to Auburn Public School Superintendent Maryellen Brunelle the shelter was utilized by several community members throughout the weekend.

"We had about 12 to 15 people stay overnight on Sunday and Monday," Brunelle said.

The shelter population has been declining and as of noon on Tuesday reached zero. If any resident is still in need of shelter, the American Red Cross has opened a regional shelter at Forest Grove Middle School at 495 Grove Street in Worcester, MA.

The shelter will remain open until further notice. Residents going to the shelter are encouraged to bring their own blankets, pillows, toiletries and medicines. Shower facilities will be available. The local Red Cross office number is 508-595-3700.

On Tuesday morning, Brunelle met with several Town Officials including the Town Manager, Fire Chief and National Grid Representatives to discuss Auburn's restoration period which is estimated to last until Thursday evening in some parts of town.
