AUBURN, Mass. - Auburn Police, Fire and a state bomb squad descended upon Fairfield Inn & Suites at 1 p.m. today after reports of a grenade under a bed; however, the item was actually a cloth container, and there was no threat, according to the Auburn Police Department.

Police Chief Andrew Sluckis said one of the workers was cleaning a room at the Route 12 hotel when she found what she thought was a grenade.

"It's shaped like a grenade, and it looked like one," Sluckis said. "But it was just a cloth pouch and was no threat."

The hotel at 718 Southbridge St. was evacuated, and the authorities determined it was not a grenade. It was removed from the hotel by the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad.

After one hour, the guests were able to return inside.
