Selectman Doreen M. Goodrich announced that she will be a candidate for re-election in the May 15, 2012 Annual Town Election. Goodrich, who is serving her first term as a Selectman, is currently the Chairman of the Board.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Auburn as a Selectman. I seek to continue that service and provide the steady, focused leadership that our community needs,” Goodrich said.

“My first term coincided with the implementation of our new Town Charter. I will continue to do everything possible to provide the measured and reasoned leadership Auburn needs, in the face of such new and exciting challenges, as we progress through this transition period.”

Voting to approve the Town Manager’s re-organization plan, confirming key municipal department head appointments, and successfully pushing for the formation of a subcommittee to examine the official policies of the Board of Selectmen, were a few of the accomplishments Goodrich pointed to from her first term. The Selectmen’s policies had previously gone unexamined for more than 20 years. Goodrich reaffirmed her commitment to serving the needs of Auburn’s residents.

“One of the most important roles of a Selectman is to get citizens involved in local government and be responsive to the questions, concerns, and new ideas our citizens bring to the table. I have always made myself available to residents who have taken the time to contact me regarding issues because they care about our Town. My philosophy on government is that it should be run from the citizens up, not from the top down,”she said.

Goodrich is currently an active member of the Auburn-Webster Lodge of Elks and St. Joseph’s parish, and also serves as Chairman of the Auburn Democratic Town Committee. She is currently employed as Director of Constituent Services to State Senator Michael O. Moore, who represents the Second Worcester District, including Auburn.

Goodrich boasts a substantial track-record of service to the Town of Auburn, both in and out of government, in addition to her current roles within the community she previously served the Town as President of the District 1 PTO, former Cub Scouts Pack 53 Den Leader, and United Soccer of Auburn Coach, in addition to having been a School Council member at both Bryn Mawr and Julia Bancroft Elementary Schools.

She served as a longtime Auburn Town Meeting Member, former member of the Auburn Charter Review Committee, and also as District Representative for State Senator Edward M. Augustus, Jr.

A resident of Auburn for over two decades, Doreen is married to Howard Goodrich, with whom she has two sons, Sean and Keith.
