Robert Mongilio, 86, Retired Auburn Teacher

MILLBURY, Mass. – Robert A. Mongilio, formerly of Millbury, died Jan. 29 at his home in Ellicott City, Md. He was 86.

He was born Dec. 4, 1926, in Millbury to Anthony and Mary Zona Mongilio. He lived in Millbury and Oxford, Mass., before moving to Ellicott City in 2008.

Mongilio graduated from Millbury High School and received a bachelor's degree from Clark University in 1952 and a master's degree from Worcester State College.

He served in the Army during World War II. He worked as a teacher at Auburn High School in Auburn for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990. He attended St. Ann’s Church in North Oxford.

Mongilio was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Ruth M. Katz Mongilio, in 2008. He is survived by three sons, Bernard Mongilio, of Gibsonia, Pa., David Mongilio, of Parkersburg, W.V., and Michael Mongilio, of Ellicott City; a sister, Eva Desmond, of Tivoli, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Paradis Funeral Home in Oxford. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann’s Church in North Oxford, following a procession from the funeral home. Burial will be at North Cemetery in Oxford.
