Obituary: Ruth Corinne (Nourse) Ela, 88

WORCESTER, Mass. - Ruth Corinne (Nourse) Ela, 88, of Worcester, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 in Christopher House of Worcester.

She is survived by two sons, Robert B. Ela III of Auburn and Bruce W. Ela of Lunenberg. She was a thoughtful mother-in-law to Donna Lee and Diane; a proud grandmother to Alan D., Robert J., David A. Ela and Lacey A. Ela Perreault; a loving great grandmother to Elizabeth, Robert, Roxy and Laeani. She was happily anticipating the arrival of two new great-grandchildren in the spring. She was predeceased by her son, Alan Ela during the Vietnam War and two brothers, Albert L. Nourse III and Robert A. Nourse.

She was born in Leominster a daughter of Albert L. and Corinne (Perron) Nourse, Jr.

Mrs. Ela worked as a receptionist for Coppus Engineering Company for many years prior to retiring. She graduated from the former Commerce High School in Worcester. Ruth was an active member of her community throughout her life; a secretary of the Sunshine Club during World War II, a den mother in the Scouts with her three sons, a volunteer with the Red Cross and after the loss of her son a proud member of the Gold Star Mothers serving as a secretary for the Worcester Chapter for many years, she continued to share her love for people. She enjoyed traveling, especially enjoying trips to Ireland and Iceland, as well as trips to Arizona and New Mexico.
Ruth was a vital and important part to the lives of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and "adopted" grandchildren. Ruth will never be forgotten by those many lives she touched.

The funeral will be Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. with a service in Dirsa Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m.
