WORCESTER, Mass. - Rita L. (Cronin) Benoit, 90, of Worcester, formerly of Putnam, CT and Cape Cod died peacefully on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at the Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Rita is survived by her son Daniel and his wife Eileen of Worcester; her daughter Patricia (Benoit) Lennon of Auburn; two sisters, June and Pat of Worcester and a brother George of Florida. She also leaves eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years Richard S. Benoit, two sons, Richard and Peter and three sisters, Betty, Alice and Anne.
She was born in Worcester on February 27, 1922, daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Ruddy) Cronin.
Rita graduated from from Classical High School and Salters Secretarial School, went to work at AT&T as an operator, then years later she worked for Chess King as the executive assistant to the vice president until her retirement 26 years ago. Rita was also past president of the Ladies Guild at Christ the King Church in Worcester.
She was an avid reader and learned to play golf after her retirement. She loved her winters in Florida, living on Cape Cod, traveling, trips to the casino and the dog track, and time with her many friends and family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Holy Trinity for the wonderful care given to Rita.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, Nov. 29 from Callahan & Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass at 10:00 am at St. John's Church, 40 Temple Street. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury. A visiting hour will also be held on Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
