WORCESTER, Mass. - Rev. Janice M. (Tanner) Wilcox, 76, of Worcester, formerly of Boylston, died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at UMASS Memorial Hospital.
She leaves her husband of 53 years, Everett A. Wilcox, Jr.; three children, Rev. Marilyn E. Wilcox-Anderson and her husband Robert of Worcester, Alan E. Wilcox and his wife Carol of Auburn and Gary E. Wilcox and his wife Christine of Worcester. She also leaves nine grandchildren, Jessica, Jared and Nathaniel Cowing, Laura, Jena and Sarah Wilcox and Ryan, Mathew and Adam Wilcox; and a great grandson, Braydon.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Earl and Leona (Snyder) Tanner. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School, Quinsigamond Community College, and Assumption College. Janice later earned her M. Div. at Andover Newton Theological School and was ordained in 1989. She began her ministry with the United Church of Christ, serving in Massachusetts, Danielson CT, and most notably Albany, Maine, where she ministered over 11 years at North Waterford and East Stoneham Congregational Churches. She was a New England sports fan, and in earlier years she also enjoyed car racing, often attending races while she lived in Maine and also the former Westborough Speedway.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 6 at 10 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 1070 Pleasant Street. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Leicester. Visiting hours are Sunday, August 5 from 3-5 p.m. at Callahan & Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Rev. Janice M. Wilcox may be made to One Great Hour of Sharing and mailed to United Church of Christ, 1 Badger Road, Framingham, MA 17020-2446.
