Obituary: Omer B. “Buddy” Cournoyer, 96

AUBURN, Mass. - Omer B. “Buddy” Cournoyer, 96, of Auburn died Thursday Oct. 4, 2012 in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester after a short illness. His wife of 71 years, Lauretta M. (Plante) Cournoyer, died in 2011.

He is survived by their three children; Robert J. Cournoyer, and his wife Natalie, of Scottsville, KY, David M. Cournoyer, and his wife Stephanie of Keller, TX, and Patricia Tudor, and her husband, Roger of Oxford, 10 loving grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Adrian, and sisters Lea M. Wood, Jeanette M. Liberis, Dorothy D. Rushford and Lorraine G. Gaboury.

He was born in Webster; the son of the late Joseph and Rose M. (Plasse) Cournoyer; he is a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School.

Omer owned and operated Fashion Dry Cleaners of Worcester, along with his wife Lauretta for over 35 years. He later worked for the McCrillis & Keep Insurance Co.
Omer was a member of the Auburn Council Knights of Columbus for many years.
He loved his winters in Florida; working in his yard and seeing old friends, but his greatest enjoyment came from making people smile and bragging about his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Auburn. His funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 from the funeral home at 9 a.m. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford St. North, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
