Obituary: Liona M. (Buswell) Pollier, 63

AUBURN, Mass. - Liona M. (Buswell) Pollier, 63, of Auburn, died peacefully on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at the Rose Monahan Hospice, Worcester, surrounded by her loving family.

Liona leaves her two daughters, Michelle Culross and her husband Eric of Auburn and Renay Couture and her husband Sean of Auburn’; her sisters, Clair Freeland of Westborough, Willa Buswell-Henkel of Denver, CO, Ruth Garrity of Lunenburg, Mary Wheaton of California, Linda Graham of Gardner and a very special sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and Samuel Davis of Kearneysville, WV; her two grandsons, James R. Pollier and John A. Couture, both of Auburn, many nieces and nephews and her former husband of 40 years, James E. Pollier of Dudley.

She was born in New London, NH, a daughter of the late Willis Buswell and Leona (King) Buswell Peterson and her husband Walter Peterson. Liona graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1967, and later became a Certified Nurses’ Aide. She spent many years working in the healthcare industry for the Auburn District Nursing Association and later for the Life Care Center of Auburn. She also served as an Ombudsman for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, advocating for patients and families in several Worcester area nursing facilities. Her strong faith led to years of service to people; especially the faith community of Saint Joseph’s Parish in Auburn where she was a member. She served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and for 35 years as a CCD teacher. She also served on several town and parish committees throughout the years. She had a special gift of finding the good in everyone, and bringing it out in them. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Liona’s family on Friday, Nov. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Family will gather on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home before leaving in procession to Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street, Auburn, where the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Following cremation, private burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
