AUBURN, Mass. – Darrell G. Wells, 62, died at home surrounded by his loving
family on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 30 years, Margaret C. (Amsden) Wells; two sons, James Wells of
Oxford and Daniel Wells of West Boylston.
He was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee, the son of James and Virginia (McClure) Wells and lived in Auburn for over
30 years.
Darrell was a corporal in U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He served with
Delta Company 1st Battalion, 7th Marines and was awarded the Purple Heart medal for
wounds he received during operation Oklahoma Hills in June, 1969.
He was a counselor for several years helping handicapped children before he retired.
Previously, he was an EMT on the Webster Fire Department. He was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans Charter 4 in Worcester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday,
September 9, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Funeral
services for Darrell will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 10, in the funeral
home followed by a committal service at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Church Street,
West Boylston.
