SHREWSBURY, Mass. - Shrewsbury weather specialist Jim Arnold says we could see light snow, rain, sleet, and freezing rain coming soon to central Massachusetts.

Arnold said he expected temperatures to drop slightly the next few days.

“We are likely to see a couple small, nuisance-type disturbances, sandwiched around a potentially strong coastal storm, impact our area with a variety of winter-type precipitation,” he said.

He said he expected slippery precipitation to hit in time for the Patriots' game Sunday night and move off, making way for cold and cloudy weather Monday morning with a few possible flurries. Then things could get worse.

Arnold is tracking a coastal storm that could generate moderate to heavy snow Monday night into Tuesday, with lighter, wintry precipitation likely through Wednesday.

Temperatures throughout the period should remain in the high 20s to mid-30s.  Winds should not be a factor in central Massachusetts, Arnold said, although coastal areas may get hit with 40 mph sustained winds, with some minor splashover/flooding at the time of high tide.

“Snow depths in our area should range from a coating to less than 2 inches from the minor disturbances on either side of the coastal storm,” Arnold said. “I do expect significant snowfall from the coastal storm, perhaps in the range of 4 to 8 inches at this point. This event is a long way off, and a lot can change in the next few days.”
