If you haven't met Tara Johnson yet, it's only a matter of time. Johnson is the newest face on the CentralMassNews.com team and she's already settling in as the main writer for TheDailyAuburn.com.
Johnson is already a news veteran at the age of 22, having mixed real-life experience with her course load at the University of New Hampshire. She had hands-on experience at the Portsmouth Herald, where she interned, and spent an unforgettable summer in New York City in the offices of Time, Inc., where she worked on a project that brought historic Life magazine photos onto an online Google archive.
That being said, you could call Johnson the reporter next door -- she grew up in Dudley, close enough to Auburn that the town was familiar territory when she was hired by CentralMassNews.com earlier this month.
"I feel very comfortable in Auburn and so far everyone has been very friendly and welcoming," Johnson said. "I really do enjoy sort of jumping into a new community. I've been to Auburn before, of course, but this is going to allow me to see the town from a fresh perspective."
Johnson has always had an interest in writing, which became more focused in high school when she took a creative writing class. She expanded that writing experience into writing about reality and soon discovered she had a knack for journalism.
"Tara's jumped right into Auburn," said Jennifer Lord Paluzzi, editor-in-chief of CentralMassNews.com. "She's an excellent writer and a good listener and I think the town is going to be pleasantly surprised to see the stories she develops for TheDailyAuburn.com."
