AUBURN, Mass. – A summertime musical starring Auburn children is coming to town in early August.
“The Principal & The Pea!” will be acted out by students entering kindergarten through third grade at the Pakachoag Music School of Greater Worcester on Aug. 3 at 6 p.m.
In the musical, "the students wonder why they're never asked what they think or what they want, so they devise the perfect plan for their new principal. When the teachers cannot choose, they devise the perfect fit: a grown-up who hates to eat peas, only to find out that their new principal is fan of Brussels sprouts!"
The school, located at 203 Pakachoag St., will have Christine Taylor directing the summer musical. Taylor has been a performer, director, producer and costumer in many productions throughout Central Massachusetts.
She has previously directed summer youth programs at the Pakachoag Community Music School of Greater Worcester.
A lifelong resident of Auburn, Taylor is a graduate of UMass-Amherst with degrees in education and music. She is the artistic director at the newly formed Auburn Community Players and directed its first production, "A Christmas Carol," in December.
Taylor is directing the Auburn Summer Youth Theater Program's “Pom Pom Zombies” at the high school.
There are speaking and team parts for everyone, including the principal who's worn out and retiring, opinionated teachers who can't make up their minds, enthusiastic job applicants, students with a bright idea, and the new Brussels sprout-loving principal.
Prior to the Aug. 3 show time, there will be a week of practice for the summer musical from July 30 to Aug. 3. The practices go from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Tuition is $165 for the one-week program.
