AUBURN, Mass. – Auburn Town Hall, the Auburn Public Library and the Lorraine Gleick Nordgren Senior Center will be closed Monday due to Hurricane Sandy, according to a CodeRED alert from Town Manager Julie Jacobson.

Only essential personnel, including emergency management, police, fire, public works, public health, communications and code will report to work. Auburn Public Schools will also be closed on Monday.

All board and committee meetings scheduled for Monday at Town Hall are canceled, including the Board of Selectmen’s meeting.

"Public safety is our main priority," said Jacobson in the CodeRED alert. "We urge all residents to stay off the roads if possible and to remain indoors during the storm as potential tree damage and flying debris is expected."

She said the town administration and the Emergency Management Department have been working since last Thursday to coordinate and plan at all levels to prepare for Hurricane Sandy and its impacts. The Emergency Operations Center will be activated and the town administration has been and will continue to regularly communicate with MEMA officials and National Grid officials.

If there is a need to open a shelter during the storm, the shelter will be activated at Auburn High School. If a shelter is activated, information will be provided to residents via CodeRED, the town’s website, Auburn Cable Television and other outreach mechanisms, including local radio stations and Auburn’s information radio 1610 AM.

The town administration will keep the public updated as necessary during the storm through CodeRED, the town’s website, Auburn Cable Television and Auburn’s information radio 1610 AM.
