AUBURN, Mass. - Are you a part of the 1 percent of Auburn who needs a place to shower or charge your phone? The town of Auburn has options for you before power gets restored in the next couple days.
In Town Manager Julie Jacobson's midday report, she said that Everybody’s Fitness Center, located at 441 Southbridge St. in Auburn, has offered the use of their facility for hot showers to anyone in the community who is still without power.
You do not need to be a member to use the showers if you are without power. The Auburn facility is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or you may visit their Sturbridge facility, located at 184 Main St., between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
In addition, the Auburn Public Library and the Lorraine Gleick Nordgren Senior Center are open during regular hours. Residents are welcome to go to either facility to charge their cell phones or laptops.
As of Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., 72 National Grid customers in Auburn, which is 0.94 percent of customers in town, remain without power. National Grid reports that all substations have power and crews are working on repairing small isolated areas and individual problems.
National Grid estimates full restoration to their system by Friday night but crews are working in Auburn on Wednesday, and they expect that several customers will be restored over the next couple of days.
