After collecting over 4,000 pounds of food last season, the 6th Annual Worcester County Sheriff’s Canned Food Drive will be kicking off again this November with a special hockey game as the Worcester Sharks host the Providence Bruins on at the DCU Center.
Worcester County Sheriff Lewis G. Evangelidis and Worcester Sharks President Michael A. Mudd have announced that the Office of the Worcester County Sheriff and the Worcester Sharks Organization have teamed up with Price Chopper and the Girl Scouts of Central Massachusetts for the drive.
"I am looking forward to teaming up with the Worcester Sharks, Price Chopper, the Girl Scouts and the Friendly House for this year's Annual Food Drive," said Evangelidis. "As the holiday season approaches especially during this difficult economic time, it is extremely important to do all we can to help those families in our community who may be less fortunate. The Food Drive has been an extremely successful annual event and we are determined to surpass our previous goals to help those families who may be in need."
All fans that donate canned food at the Worcester Sharks game on Nov. 13 will receive a free ticket voucher to the Sharks game on Wednesday, Dec. 21 vs. the Springfield Falcons, compliments of Price Chopper. Collected food will go directly to the Friendly House of Worcester to be distributed to needy families throughout the Worcester area.
In addition, Boston Bruins forward and fan favorite Shawn Thornton will sign autographs in the DCU Center Concourse from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“The Worcester Sharks are pleased to partner with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Friendly House, and Price Chopper again this season,” said Mudd. “It is important for everyone to assist those who are less fortunate, especially as we get ready for the holiday season.”
Over 4,000 pounds of food was collected last season and the Sharks and Sheriff’s Office hope to surpass that goal this season.
The Worcester Sharks will host the Providence Bruins at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13.at the DCU Center.
In addition non-perishable food items may also be dropped off on Nov. 18 at the Worcester Price Chopper located at 50 Cambridge Street from 9:00 am to noon.
