AUBURN, Mass. – As Halloween and Election Day approach, the Auburn Senior Center has political and festive activities planned for residents:
Candidates’ Forum
The Auburn Council on Aging is sponsoring a Candidates’ Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 9:30 a.m. at the Lorraine Gleick Nordgren Senior Center, 4 Goddard Drive.
All candidates on the November ballot, or their representatives, are invited to participate. Each speaker will be given five minutes.
The event will be videotaped to be rebroadcast prior to the election on the town’s local cable access channel. The general public is invited to attend, and a light breakfast will be served.
Call 508-832-7799 by 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, if you wish to be included on the agenda.
Halloween Week Luncheon
The Auburn Senior Center will host a Halloween lunch with festivities on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
Guests can wear costumes, and the center will have a contest to pick the most interesting getup. Prizes will be awarded.
At 11:45 a.m., punch and treats will be served. Lunch includes Swedish meatballs with egg noodles, in addition to Halloween cake.
If you plan to attend, call Patty at 508-832-7798 two days in advance for reservations. A $2 donation for lunch would be appreciated.
Special Needs Registry
As winter approaches, the Senior Center is working to compile a list of Auburn residents who might need assistance if there is an extended power outage.
The Senior Center wants to know about residents who live independently and have a disability that would require assistance.
The center also needs to know if the resident has a pet that he or she would need to take in the event of evacuation, would need transportation or is on oxygen or some type of life support.
The Senior Center wants to add this information to its secure database to help residents maintain their independence with dignity. This service is also available for younger disabled members of the community. If you know someone who could use this service, contact them and ask them to call the Senior Center at 508-832-7799.
