AUBURN, Mass. – You can enjoy free, frozen treats dished up by state Sen. Michael Moore (D-Millbury) at the Auburn Senior Center on Monday, Aug. 13.

Moore’s annual ice cream social at the Lorraine Gleick Nordgren Senior Center will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. George Lear will play the piano for entertainment.

“It’s a great way to stay in contact with the seniors,” Moore said. “It’s great to be able to sit down with them and talk with them on a one-on-one basis.”

Moore will serve ice cream with cherries, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and sprinkles.

“With this terrible heat in the summer, it’s one of the best ways to cool off,” he said. “I hope many seniors are able to make it. It’ll be great to see them all.”

Moore recently visited seniors in Leicester with state Rep. John Binienda (D-Worcester) at an ice cream social for the residents and patients of Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation — The Meadows.

He also held an ice cream social at the Millbury Senior Center on Aug. 2.

“This is always a fun event for us,” Moore said at that event. “Once you arrive, you see the reaction of our residents, and they all want to talk and ask questions.”

Since taking office in 2008, Moore said he has held ice cream socials and/or cookouts each summer in all the senior centers in his district. These municipalities include Auburn, Grafton, Leicester, Millbury, Northbridge (Wards 2 & 4), Shrewsbury, Upton and Worcester (Wards 5-7 and Ward 8 - Precincts 1 & 5).

During the winter holiday season, Moore said he holds full turkey dinners at all the senior centers.

You must preregister for the ice cream social by calling the Auburn Senior Center at 508-832-7799.
