AUBURN, Mass. – The Auburn/Webster Lodge of Elks will continue its legacy of community involvement when it runs a fun and free sports event in September.
The community group will hold its annual soccer shoot for girls and boys Sept. 9 at 754 Southbridge St.
The free event for children ages 5 to 13 as of Aug. 1 will begin registration at 8 a.m., with the competition kicking off at 9 a.m.
The Elks soccer shoot program consists of two contests that test level skills at different ages.
A "Five Goal Contest" consists of a series of five goals, decreasing in size.
The age groups that use these goals are divided into two categories: under-8 is for children 7 and younger, and the under-10 group is for 8- and 9-year-olds.
The “Grid Goal Contest” consists of a full-size goal sectioned off with points scored when the ball is kicked into certain sections.
The age groups that use this goal are under-12, which is for 10- and 11-year-olds, and under-14, which is for 12- and 13-year-olds.
The boy and girl in each age group with the best score will advance to the next level of competition in October.
