AUBURN, Mass. — Auburn Recreation and Culture will sponsor its fifth Massachusetts Special Olympic basketball tournament at Auburn Middle School this year. Volunteers are needed to help with the event.

The tournament will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 9 and 10.

Organized by Kristen Pappas, Auburn's director of recreation, the event is hosted in the middle school gym this year.

Pappas said that past events have been a success, "thanks to the generosity of Superintendent Maryellen Brunelle and High School Principal Casey Handfield for opening their doors and hearts."

The tournament has also had tremendous volunteer participation from local church groups, athletic teams, cheering squads, scouts and local businesses.

Furthermore, Pappas said the Auburn/Webster Elks Lodge is once again donating hundreds of hot meals for the event, and the Auburn American Legion Post Color Guard will present colors.

Those interested in volunteering should contact the Auburn Recreation and Culture Department at (508) 832-7736 or email Pappas
