AUBURN, Mass. - The population in Auburn grew by one as Firefighters delivered a baby in a cramped bathroom on the second floor of a Montclair Drive home.

Firefighters received a 911 call at 10:08 p.m. on Tuesday night from the expecting father at 7 Montclair Drive stating that his wife was in labor.

Crews quickly arrived on the scene at 10:12 p.m. and at 10:16 p.m. Auburn welcomed its newest resident. Firefighter/Paramedic Teresa DiDonato along with Captain Greg Morin and Firefighter/EMT’s James Conway and Brian Prunier assisted with the birth.

“It went very quickly from the time we arrived” said Captain Morin.

Fire Chief Stephen M. Coleman Jr. says field births are not something that comes along a lot in the course of a career.

“Some members will go their entire career and never see one” Coleman said.

In this case it was the first for Captain Morin and Firefighters Conway and Prunier. For Firefighter/Paramedic DiDonato on other hand, this was number five.

According to Coleman, both mother and child were transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester were they are doing fine.
