AUBURN, Mass. ‒ If you have an art, science or historical program that benefits Auburn residents, The Auburn Cultural Council wants to remind you that Oct. 15 is the deadline to apply for a funding grant.

Individuals, artists, nonprofit community groups, cultural institutions and schools with cultural projects that benefit the public may apply. The funds have been made available by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

“The [Auburn] council tries to be inclusive of all groups,” said Auburn Town Clerk Ellen Gaboury. “They try to spread it out for concerts for the senior center, library programs for children, school groups, and so all areas of the community get a little bit to promote the arts, history and science.

Gaboury said the Cultural Council can help fund tickets for school field trips for pre-K through 12th grade children, but not the transportation.

Last year, the grant recipients included the Auburn Department of Recreation and Culture, Auburn Women’s Club, Auburn Youth and Family Services, Auburn Middle School and Pakachoag Music School, among others.

Applications are available at mass-culture.org, as well as at the Auburn Public Library and Town Hall. Online applications can be filled out online and printed. The application format changed last year, so it’s important to use updated applications and to read the Auburn guidelines carefully, as each town may have varying requirements.

Applications are evaluated using several criteria: artistic or creative merit; project design; qualifications, dedication and past records of the individuals and organizations involved; physical accessibility and accommodating size of any facilities being used, and community benefit.

The council will not fund activities that should be part of municipal budgets, such as teacher salaries, classroom supplies, school sponsored clubs and organizations, library books/videos, etc.

Two copies of each application should be sent to Auburn Cultural Council, c/o Town Clerk, 104 Central St., Auburn, MA 01501, and must be postmarked by Oct. 15.
