AUBURN, Mass. – Auburn Boy Scout Committee Chairman Bruce Fant received three pies in his face on Nov. 15 from members of Boy Scout Troop 101 to kick-off the troop’s holiday fund-raiser.
Last year, Fant offered to be pied by the top three sellers of Christmas wreaths from last year's fund-raiser. Then on Nov. 15, at the kickoff for this year’s Christmas wreaths sale, Bruce had to make good on his offer in the basement of First Congregational Church on Central Street.
Boy Scout Troop 101 started selling its wreaths on Monday. Funds raised from the sale of the wreaths will help fund the scouting program.
Wreaths with a bow cost $10, and a member of the troop will deliver a wreath with no additional charge in Auburn.
If you are interested in purchasing a wreath, send a message to email@example.com .
Laurence Reich, assistant scoutmaster for Troop 101, said the funds raised will help defray the costs of the troop’s trips and other events. Last summer, the scouts were able to go on a white-water rafting and canoe trip after raising money throughout the year.
“And next summer, the troop is going to Boy Scout camp in Paxton, Spencer and Rutland, and we’re working to help defray those costs,” Reich said.
There are 14 boys in the troop, and Reich said the troop is looking to add members who are interested in an active scouting career.
