AUBURN, Mass. — The Auburn Senior Center will continue a longtime tradition with a meal and celebration for the young at heart this Valentine's Day.
"We call it Heart Day," said Patty Hubbard, nutrition manager. The event, scheduled for Valentine's Day, is for singles, friends and couples who are 60 years and older.
"It's for everyone, because a lot of people have lost their spouses," she said.
Organized by Elder Services of the Worcester Area, the annual meal brings seniors together on the holiday for a healthy meal and entertainment as well as "heart-to-heart conversation and heartfelt laughter," said Hubbard.
"It's good therapy to help seniors keep going and form friendships," she added.
A few men have lost their spouses recently, she said. The men may be shy and quiet, but they took a chance and came out to the senior center, Hubbard said.
"But they found a niche, and they're thrilled to be here," she added. "They really make a place for themselves here."
Additionally, the roast turkey dinner offers seniors the opportunity to enjoy a full nutritious meal that's good for the heart, Hubbard said.
The event is scheduled for noon Feb. 14 at the Auburn Senior Center at 4 Goddard Drive. Seniors can register by calling 508-832-7799.
